Thailand is a well-known destination for people seeking high-quality medical care at affordable prices. In response to the growing demand, the Thai government has introduced a special visa exemption for citizens from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries—Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. This exemption allows them to stay in Thailand for up to 90 days for medical treatment without needing to apply for a separate visa.
How Does the 90-Day Visa Exemption Work?
If you’re a GCC national coming to Thailand for medical reasons, this visa exemption lets you extend your stay beyond the usual 30 days, giving you a full three months to complete any medical procedures or treatments. It’s a great option if you need more time for consultations, surgeries, or follow-up appointments.
Who’s Eligible?
This 90-day exemption covers not only patients but also up to three family members or caregivers who can accompany them during their stay. These accompanying individuals must also be GCC nationals. If a caregiver or family member is from another country, they’ll need to apply for a Non-Immigrant “O” Visa instead.
What Do You Need to Show at the Airport?
When you arrive in Thailand, be prepared to present the following:
- For the Patient:
- A letter from a certified hospital in Thailand confirming your medical appointment.
- Financial proof, like a bank statement or health insurance documents.
- For Accompanying Individuals:
- Family members should have proof of their relationship to the patient, like a birth or marriage certificate.
- Maids or caregivers must show an employment contract and supporting documents from the hospital.

This 90-day visa exemption is specifically for medical purposes. If you’re visiting Thailand for leisure or any non-medical reason, the existing 30-day visa exemption still applies (except for Saudi nationals, who can obtain a 15-day visa on arrival).
